CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Former President Donald Trump is stumping for candidates across the country. But, his endorsement seems to act as a double-edged sword this primary season.

The added publicity can add to a candidate’s pull, or in some states, it can detract.

Natural Resources and Constitutional Attorney Harriet Hageman has had an established and illustrious career in law, including fighting the EPA and the USDA and winning.

She has now set her sights on throwing her hat into the ring for Wyoming’s congressional seat with Trump’s blessing.

Below is a transcribed portion of our interview.

Valeria Fugate: “What do you think it means to have Trump’s support in your campaign and the rally that is happening in Casper? How do you think that is…both of those aspects… How do you think that is going to help your campaign?

Harriet Hageman: “In terms of his endorsement, it’s important for a variety of reasons. I am a very strong “America First” person. I believe in putting “America First,” and I believe that a strong America makes for a better and safer world. We have influence far beyond our borders.”

Hageman will be in Casper this Saturday, along with a Trump entourage, to rally support behind her campaign and some other Republicans in the state.

Historically, though, Hageman has been a critic of Trump, calling him a “racist and xenophobe” in 2016, according to the New York Times.

One other thing to note is that Hageman had a hand in Liz Cheney’s 2014 senate campaign, except now she is hoping to unseat her from her congressional position.

VF: “How important is it for GOP politicians to be backed by Trump in this upcoming election and the primaries we’re seeing?”

HH:-” I think that has been demonstrated by the record and so as we saw in Ohio and as we’ve seen in other races. I don’t know what the number is now; I think it may be over 70 to 80 people have received his endorsement that have prevailed in their primaries, so obviously, that “America First” policy, his willingness to stand up for the values that a lot of us believe in the foreign policy positions that he took his advocacy for domestic oil and gas production clearly that is important in the state of Wyoming.

We reached out to representative Liz Cheney on multiple occasions. She has yet to make time for an interview.
