Rolling Stone reported last year, EXCLUSIVE: Jan. 6 Protest Organizers Say They Participated in ‘Dozens’ of Planning Meetings With Members of Congress and White House Staff:
As the House investigation into the Jan. 6 attack heats up, some of the planners of the pro-Trump rallies that took place in Washington, D.C., have begun communicating with congressional investigators and sharing new information about what happened when the former president’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Two of these people have spoken to Rolling Stone extensively in recent weeks and detailed explosive allegations that multiple members of Congress were intimately involved in planning both Trump’s efforts to overturn his election loss and the Jan. 6 events that turned violent.
Rolling Stone separately confirmed a third person involved in the main Jan. 6 rally in D.C. has communicated with the committee. This is the first report that the committee is hearing major new allegations from potential cooperating witnesses.
[T]he two sources, both of whom have been granted anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, describe participating in “dozens” of planning briefings ahead of that day when Trump supporters broke into the Capitol as his election loss to President Joe Biden was being certified.
[T]hese two sources also helped plan a series of demonstrations that took place in multiple states around the country in the weeks between the election and the storming of the Capitol. According to these sources, multiple people associated with the March for Trump and Stop the Steal events that took place during this period communicated with members of Congress throughout this process.
Along with Marjorie “Q” Greene, the conspiratorial pro-Trump Republican from Georgia who took office earlier this year, the pair both say the members who participated in these conversations or had top staffers join in included Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).
“We would talk to Boebert’s team, Cawthorn’s team, Gosar’s team like back to back to back to back,” says the organizer.
And Gosar, who has been one of the most prominent defenders of the Jan. 6 rioters, allegedly took things a step further. Both sources say he dangled the possibility of a “blanket pardon” in an unrelated ongoing investigation to encourage them to plan the protests.
“Our impression was that it was a done deal,” the organizer says, “that he’d spoken to the president about it in the Oval … in a meeting about pardons and that our names came up. They were working on submitting the paperwork and getting members of the House Freedom Caucus to sign on as a show of support.”
The organizer claims the pair received “several assurances” about the “blanket pardon” from Gosar.
“I was just going over the list of pardons and we just wanted to tell you guys how much we appreciate all the hard work you’ve been doing,” Gosar said, according to the organizer.
The rally planner describes the pardon as being offered while “encouraging” the staging of protests against the election.
* * *
Rolling Stone has separately obtained documentary evidence that both sources were in contact with Gosar and Boebert on Jan. 6. We are not describing the nature of that evidence to preserve their anonymity. The House select committee investigating the attack also has interest in Gosar’s office. Gosar’s chief of staff, Thomas Van Flein, was among the people who were named in the committee’s “sweeping” requests to executive-branch agencies seeking documents and communications from within the Trump administration. Both sources claim Van Flein was personally involved in the conversations about the “blanket pardon” and other discussions about pro-Trump efforts to dispute the election. Van Flein did not respond to a request for comment.
[In] another indication members of Congress may have been involved in planning the protests against the election, Ali Alexander, who helped organize the “Wild Protest,” declared in a since-deleted livestream broadcast that Gosar, Brooks, and Biggs helped him formulate the strategy for that event.
“I was the person who came up with the Jan. 6 idea with Congressman Gosar, Congressman Mo Brooks, and Congressman Andy Biggs,” Alexander said at the time. “We four schemed up on putting maximum pressure on Congress while they were voting so that — who we couldn’t lobby — we could change the hearts and the minds of Republicans who were in that body hearing our loud roar from outside.”
Alexander led Stop the Steal, which was one of the main groups promoting efforts to dispute Trump’s loss. In December, he organized a Stop the Steal event in Phoenix, where Gosar was one the main speakers. At that demonstration, Alexander referred to Gosar as “my captain” and declared “one of the other heroes has been Congressman Andy Biggs.”
And let’s never forget that it was Paul Gosar who first objected to certification of Arizona’s electoral college vote, backed by Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Gosar was still presenting his objection when the House was gaveled into recess because the Capitol building had been breached by violent MAGA/QAnon seditous insurrectionists in search of the Vice President and members of Congress whom they wanted to kill according to a recent DOJ filing in the peosecution of the Proud Boys.
The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol has subpoenaed insurrectionist Coup Plotter Rep. Andy Biggs, who has refused to cooperate with the committee.
But as Mother Maggs at Daliy Kos says : “It’s inconceivable that dentist turned politician turned white supremacist turned coup plotter Paul Gosar has not been called by the Jan. 6 Committee to testify.” (It’s always possible that the committee has received enough evidence from other witnesses who wer in conract with Rep. Gosar that the committee does not feel the need to subpoena this lying insurrectionist Coup Plotter).
Mother Maggs writes, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar: I ‘started the revolution’ (you mean insurrection):
[A]fter all, Ali Alexander, one of the cretins behind the assault on the Capitol, said Rep. Gosar was the “spirit animal” of the Stop the Steal movement, which began in Phoenix on election night, immediately after Fox News called Arizona for Biden.
The Committee has subpoenaed Gosar’s Arizona partner in crime, Rep. Andy Biggs, who, along with Gosar and Mo Brooks, formed the nucleus of Jan. 6 planning, according to Alexander. Like other Republicans, however, Biggs doesn’t think laws apply to him and he’s refused to testify. Heck, he won a $10 million magazine sweepstakes, which fueled his entrance into politics, so he must be special. Damn you, Ed McMahon!
Gosar’s the dipshit who boycotted the Pope’s speech at the Arizona Capitol because the Pontiff dared to mention climate change. Gosar’s the asshole who drove to Nevada to stand with the criminal Cliven Bundy and against his own government. Gosar’s the peckerhead whose own siblings regularly appear in TV commercials for Gosar’s opponents, because they know their brother is a racist—and they say so. Gosar’s the dweeb who spoke at Nick Fuentes’ white nationalist conference because CPAC was just too darn liberal. Gosar’s the goober who plotted with the Proud Boys to pull off a “Brooks Brothers Riot” in his own state after the 2020 election. Gosar’s the supreme jackass who was censured by his own Republican Party, and stripped of committee assignments, because he tweeted an anime clip of him murdering AOC.
You get the picture, that’s one ugly person—and I challenge anyone to name a thing the turdly one has done for Arizonans.
Gosar was also the first official to object to the election certification when Arizona was called on Jan. 6, 2021. Then things went weird for a few hours as Gosar’s Proud Boys and other comrades stormed the Capitol, but Gosar was back again that evening, after lives had been lost and more lives threatened, to vote against certification, standing with the insurgents who had just tried to hurt or even kill his fellow elected officials.
Gosar has maintained all along, without evidence, that the 2020 election was stolen. In his own state the Maricopa County vote was recounted three times because Gosar and other Republicans wouldn’t STFU about the impossibility of trump losing Arizona, then the election was subject to the Cyber Ninjas’ expensive and surreal “audit,” which only proved Biden won the County by even more votes! And no fraud was found either. Still, Gosar and other Republicans continue to push the big lie; you simply can’t run as a Republican in Arizona and not say the election was stolen—all evidence to the contrary.
Now Paul Gosar is taking credit for the “revolution” [insurrection] in America.
Gosar tied himself to the insurrection at a June event hosted by a Republican club in Bullhead City, according to a video obtained by The Arizona Republic.
“On January 6th, 2021, I was the one who started the revolution in regards to accountability of elections,” the Arizona Republican said to some applause.*
*I like that, “to some applause.” It’s a rubber chicken luncheon with people walking around, many not paying attention to the strange man with the microphone.
Whether Gosar means he “started the revolution” [insurrection] because Arizona was first to object to certification, or he’s referring to the plot that he, Biggs, Brooks, Alexander, and others were part of early on, I’m not sure, but the Jan. 6 Committee might like to know. One thing I’d bet on, though: Gosar is among the names who sought a pardon from Trump, because this bigot is wading in Jan. 6 slop up to his neck—a story the Committee must tell.
The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol aside, the better question is what is Merrick Garland and his Department of Justice doing to build a criminal case against these congressional Republican Coup Plotters identifed by cooperative Proud Boys witnesses in the DOJ’s seditious conspiracy prosecution. The DOJ has not (yet) indicted any of the congressional Republican co-conspirators and accessories.
It appears to me that this white supremacist insurrectionist Coup Plotter Rep. Paul Gosar is just begging to be indicted by the DOJ. Are you listening DOJ? Indict him already!
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment bars this insurrectionist Coup Plotter from holding office or running for office. Insurrectionists can be barred from office, appeals court says:
Participants in an insurrection against the U.S. government can be barred from holding office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled.
[In] a statement, the group Free Speech for People called the ruling a “major victory” that “cements the growing judicial consensus that the 1872 Amnesty Act does not shield the insurrectionists of January 6, 2021 — including Donald Trump — from the consequences of their actions.”
